19th June 2026 - Lancaster Farm

Year 1 had a fantastic trip to Lancaster farm on Friday. The children were given the opportunity to pet a rabbit and a guinea pig in the petting barn. They also got to meet Tilly the tortoise and were given the opportunity to feed Mr Moustachio the horse.
 The children in Year 1 enjoyed going on a nature walk where they got to see and feed a wide range of farm animals. They also had a lovely picnic in the sunshine. The children had a lovely day visiting Lancaster Farm and were amazed how close it is to school.
It is somewhere they are keen to visit again with members of the families.

12th June 2026 - MOSI

Year 3 had a fantastic visit to the Museum of Science and Industry on Friday to develop the children’s scientific curiosity and enthusiasm for learning. They explored the Textiles Gallery, making links to the Year 2 local history curriculum by learning about the machinery used to produce cotton in Oldham. The children then visited the Experiment Gallery, where they had opportunities to build, investigate, and discover scientific concepts through hands-on activities. They also explored the steam engine trains and learnt about how these engines worked and their importance in Britain’s industrial past. Finally, the children watched the Revolution Manchester Show, which told the story of how science and industry came together in Manchester to shape the world we live in today. The visit provided an engaging and memorable learning experience, bringing science and history to life for all of the children

9th June 2026 - Gallery Oldham

Year 4 visited Gallery Oldham and Oldham Library today. They spent an hour having a guided tour of the library where the librarians taught the children how to use the library and then they all took part in a scavenger hunt looking for a variety of books. Those children with library cards were also given the opportunity to borrow a book to take home whilst others spent time reading books they might want to borrow in the future. The children then toured the galleries where they enjoyed  looking at various pieces of art and also learning about the history of Oldham. The children particularly enjoyed seeing the Oldham Wakes exhibition where they spotted their own work on display!  The children used the binoculars provided to find their own starling.

The children loved their visit to the Gallery and lots of children have said that they can’t wait to return with their family! 

30th May 2026 - Creative Crew

For the past few months a group of Year 5 children (The Creative Crew) and Mrs Davies, have been taking part in a project lead by a local artist Sophie Tyrell.  This culminated on Saturday with the grand opening of an exhibition inspired by ‘Wakes weeks’ – a tradition when factories would shut down, and families in Oldham would enjoy a break in the summer.

The Creative Crew, lead other Oldham schools with another local artist, Emma Martin, to help create the instillation, they also, with the help of the Mayor of Oldham got to open the event.  The children of Burnley Brow also took part in a special murmuration led by King Starling himself!
It was so lovely to see our Creative Crew shine and for so many of our families turning up to support this event. 
The exhibition at Gallery Oldham is open until the 5th September.  

20th May 2026 - Eid Assembly

Key Stage 2 performed their Eid Assembly to their parents to celebrate Eid al-Adha.

The assembly was amazing with our children astounding us with their wonderful singing and acting!

18th May 2026 - Nursery and Reception Farm Visit

 

 

 

Today, Nursery and Reception had a farm visit Burnley Brow.  The farm took up residence in our Forest School and the children came out in groups to visit it. The firm favourites were the alpacas that everyone wanted to walk, the disobedient ducks and the feeding of milk to the sheep. 
Everyone enjoyed seeing the animals and learning about them.  Even the teachers couldn’t keep away from them! 

15th May 2026 - David Attenbourgh's 100th Birthday Celebration

Today, we held a special themed day to celebrate Sir David Attenborough’s 100th birthday! The children learned about his life, visited the Forest School, created documentaries in his style – Nursery even had a birthday party for him! 

Every class also decorated their door in the style of one of his documentaries. Well done to 2E and 5B for your winning doors! 

15th May 2026 - Nursery

Today,  Nursery released their butterflies in the Forest School! 

They have been learning about the life-cycle of the butterfly.  They observed the life-cycle of the butterfly from caterpillar to cocoon to butterfly.  

The children were amazed at their transformation and the butterfly release was a magical experience. 

8th May 2026 - Year 5 Quarry Bank Mill

Year 5 visited Quarry Bank Mill as part of their history learning linked to their local study of Oldham and the Industrial Revolution. The visit provided the children with an excellent opportunity to bring their classroom learning to life and develop a deeper understanding of what life was like during Victorian Britain.

They enjoyed learning about the different roles within the mill and loved the Apprentice’s House. 

 

24th April 2026 - Choral Speaking

Today, the President of the Oldham Rotary Club, Jack Wild,  visited Burnley Brow to present our Poetry Club and classes 3S and 3B some very special prizes! Each choir were presented special commendation certificates.  We were also presented the Mel Farrer Trophy for Outstanding Contribution to the Festival by a School.

Well done everyone! 

20th April 2026 - Year 3 Ancient Greece

Year 3 participated in lots of different drama activities todays to start of their learning of Ancient Greece.
The day included learning about the different city states, including how they were ruled and what each was famous for, the different Ancient Greek Gods and Goddesses and explored some myths.  The children enjoyed engaging in the drama activities and it gave the children the opportunity to explore the facts, people and places in a creative and memorable day. 
Bea from Altru Drama was blown away by the children’s impeccable behaviour and their enthusiasm for learning.  

27th March 2026 - Easter Raffle

Today our Easter Raffle was drawn in a special assembly in the hall! Well done to all of our winners.  We hope that you enjoy eating your Easter eggs!

25th March 2026 - NSPCC Workshops

Yesterday, a volunteer from the NSPCC visited  Year 2 and Year 5 to speak to the children about Speak Out Stay Safe campaign.  The children were delighted that they bought along Buddy their mascot!  In the workshop, the children looked at some ways that some children might not feel safe and learnt about trusted adults and importance of sharing with a trusted adult if they want it to change. The children also learnt about Childline and how to access this if they need any help and were left with the message of ‘We all have the right to speak out and stay safe’. 

The children were so mature and thoughtful with all of their contributions that the volunteer is coming back to speak to Year 6!   

11th March 2026 - Choral Speaking

Today the children in 3S, 3B and the Burnley Brow Poetry Club attended the Rotary Oldham Metro’s 40th Annual Choral Speaking Festival. 
We had the opportunity to perform in front of 3 other schools and an audience full of parents who had come to support their children! 3S performed The Case of the Missing Cookies and Life Doesn’t Frighten Me and received an Honours ++. 
3B performed: The Toilet Seat Has Teeth and The Most Important Rap and received a Distinction.  The Poetry Club performed their own poem This is Oldham and then The Sound Collector and received a Distinction +. 
The judges commented on the choir’s huge vocal range, their cohesive delivery and using their voices to create contrast and interest. 

We were very proud of you! 

9th March 2026 - Digital Leaders

Today the Digital Leaders led a special assembly  all about different ways the children could be safe online and with AI.  They learnt what AI is and how to use it safely and responsibly. They also looked at how to spot whether images and videos had been made using AI or whether a human had made them. The important thing the children took away from this assembly is to tell a trusted adult if they are ever unsure about what they have seen online and to not always trust what they read online. 

6th March 2026 - Dr Kershaw's

Today Tom Penketh from Dr Kershaw’s visited Burnley Brow to say thank you for the money that we raised as part of the Reindeer Run that the children completed before Christmas.  

As a school we raised £303 for such a good cause that helps people at the end of their life and their families all around Oldham. Well done Burnley Brow! 

5th March 2026 - World Book Day









Burnley Brow celebrated World Book Day today!  The children and staff dressed as their favourite book characters and had the chance to share their costumes with everyone in our special assembly. The children then took part in a carousel of activities based on each teacher’s favourite book.  In the afternoon, all of the children had the opportunity to ‘free write’.  All children were then given a book token to spend on a book of their choice. 

2nd March 2026 - Roman Experience

Today Portals from the Past delivered an amazing Roman experience day to our Year 4  children today!
They learnt about chariot racing, soldier training, got to hold weapons and got to look at lots of Roman artefacts.  Today brought their learning to life and asked lots of questions! 

The Roman visitor commented on how respectful our Year 4 children were and how he is always excited to visit Burnley Brow. 

2nd March 2026 - Health Champions

Our Health Champions held an assembly today to promote this terms health message about mental wellbeing.  The assembly focused on how the children could look after their mental health.
Our Health Champions  meet termly with other Health Champions from other schools and come back to school to implement initiatives to promote good health. 

24th February 2026 - Shakespeare

Today the children from Year 4 to Year 6 watched a performance of Romeo and Juliet by William Shakespeare.  The theatre group from MANACTO, enthralled the children with their version of the play.   The children were then given the opportunity to ask the actors lots of question the actors said that the children’s questions were amazing and made them really think about their answers. 

11th February 2026 - Poetry Slam

Today, all of the children took part in our annual Poetry Slam.  This is our 10th year of doing this and each year the performances are getting better and better! The children were either awarded a Merit, an Honours or a Distinction.  Well done to 4D who were awarded a Distinction for their performance of Gran Can You Rap by Jack Ousby, 6J for The House on Haunted Hill and 4H for the Sound Collector by Roger McGough.  Well done everyone!

6th February 2026 - Internet Safety

Next Tuesday, the 10th February, is Internet Safety Day.

Today we watched a special performance from Altru Drama called the Tangled Web.  The children learnt valuable lessons on how to stay safe online, cyber bullying, the effects of spending too much time on devices and in game purchases.  The children loved the performance but all came away with these important messages.  

Ask your children about what they learnt as part of the assembly. 

2nd February 2026 - History Ambassadors.

Our History Ambassadors confidently delivered a whole-school assembly about the history of women’s suffrage, explaining how women fought for the right to vote in 1918. Using drama and powerful messages, they showed how speaking up can change history and make society fairer.  Well done to our History Ambassadors and we look forward to your next assembly. 

29th January - Florence Nightingale

The Lady with the Lamp visited school today as Year 1 took part in an exciting workshop all about Florence Nightingale. 

This was a fantastic opportunity to bring their history learning to life! The children showed us their amazing historical skills though  drama.  

Ask your child about this visit and about what hospitals were like when Florence was alive. 

21st January 2026 - Wonder Dome Visit

Today, Year 5 were taken on a cosmic journey through space when a large inflatable planetarium was delivered to school! Inside the dome, the children were thrilled at exploring the wonders of the Universe.  They learned about planets, stars, galaxies and space travel and learnt lots about our solar system.  The children said they felt like they were really in space and flying past the planets!  

I am sure this visit will have inspired some of our Year 5 children to become the astronauts of the future! 

12th January 2026 - Front Row Music

Today Front Row music visited school for a fun and interactive assembly.  The children learnt all about the ukulele including the different parts of it and how it is played.  The children were then involved in a game of guessing the tune which our visitor played on the ukulele and on the electric guitar – all of the children knew he played Peppa Pig! 

Some very lucky children were also chosen to have a go at playing the ukulele too! 

8th January 2026 - Portals to the Past

Today Year 5 were transported back to the time of the Vikings when Bodvar, a Viking warrior, visited school! They explored the types of clothing they wore, played games and found out lots of interesting facts about what life as a Viking would have been like.  The children were lucky enough to witness what a Viking battle would have been like and the types of weapons they would have used. 

 The children are definitely enthused now to investigate their enquiry question of whether the Vikings were ruthless killers of peaceful settlers. 

18th December 2025 - Christmas Parties and Father Christmas

The children wore their party clothes to school today for their party lunch and Christmas parties.  The children had a fantastic time!  

The children also had a very special visit from a very special visitor… Father Christmas! The man himself delivered presents to all of the children. 

18th December 2025 - Food Bank

Today the Student Leaders delivered donations of chocolates, crackers, Christmas cakes and cheese to the food bank at Garforth Street Community Church food bank. 

The donations were gratefully received and will be used to create special Christmas hampers to those in the local community. 

17th December 2025 - Christmas Dinner Day

The children enjoyed their Christmas dinners today – turkey with all the trimmings.  It was a great success with all of the children loving their dinner!  Even the teachers enjoyed their festive meal too. 

Thank you to all the kitchen staff who worked so hard to make this day a success! 

 

17th December 2025 - Reindeer Run

Today all of the children from Nursery to Year 6 wore their loveliest winter jumpers for this year’s Reindeer Run on behalf of Dr Kershaw’s.  The children donned their antlers and ran around the hall or the playground and helped raise a lot of money for such a good cause. 

Well done to all of the children.

15th and 16th December 2025 - Nativity

The children from Nursery, Reception and Key Stage 1 have performed the Nativity over the past two days.  

The children loved performing for their parents and the parents loved the fabulous singing and acting! 

Well done to all of the children and staff for their dedication and hard work to make this year’s performance amazing! 

 

2nd December 2025 - Ultimate Products

The Year 6 children had an exciting opportunity to visit Ultimate Products to explore a range of careers available in their local area. During the visit the children stepped into the role of product designer for the morning.  They had to research ideas, develop their own product and then present their designs to members of the Ultimate Products team! 

The children definitely loved dipping their toes into the world of work! 

25th November 2025 - Egyptian Day

Today the children in Year 4 were joined by Altru Drama to learn about what life was like during Ancient Egyptian times – all explored through drama.

The children learnt about the different pharaohs, Egyptian Gods and the hierarchy in society in those times. 

The children had a great time and have learnt so much about this era. 


21st November 2025 - Nursery Rhyme and Songs Event

Today Nursery held a very special event for them and their parents. They shared some of the nursery rhymes and songs they have learnt so far and performed these to their parents.  The parents loved joining in with their children and struggled to keep up with them.  Wind the bobbin up and heads, shoulders, knees and toes!

21st November 2025 - Stone Age Drama Workshop

Today the children in Year 3 consolidated their learning about the Stone Age era.  They used a range of drama techniques to learn about life in the Stone Age. They used role play to act out the different times though the Stone Age and Freeze frames to learn about the Iron and Bronze Age as well as comparing life in the Stone Age to now. 

 A great day was had by all! 

20th November 2025 - Athletics Competion

The children participated at an athletics competition today! They were all amazing and as a team they achieved 3rd place overall.  

Stand out performances in the long jump and speed bounce gave us two first places – well done to everyone who attended the competition we hope to see you all at the 2028 Olympic Games! 


17th November 2025 -iRocks

Today the children from Year 2 to Year 6 got the full rock star experience in our special iRocks assembly.  

They loved joining in and a few of them even had the opportunity to form their own rock band and the song We will, we will rock you echoed around school! 

14th November 2025 - Children in Need

Today the children help raise money for Children in Need. They came to school wearing their own clothes, made a small change trail around school and enjoyed a special café.  


We also had our 9th edition of The Joke Machine – I am not sure many teachers got golden bananas for their jokes! Well done everyone! 

11th November 2025 - Remembrance Day

A two minute silence was held today to remember all those who have served and died in wars.  The children had a special assembly all about remembrance and then observed the silence in school at 11 0’clock.  The children in Year 6 observed their two minute silence at the  cenotaph outside Chadderton Town Hall.

10th November 2025 - Owl Babies Hook

Nursery went on an owl hunt today as part of their literacy learning.  The children have read the story Owl Babies by Martin Waddell and then went into the school grounds to find Sarah, Percy and Bill.  

Thankfully, all the owls were found and were returned to Nursery safely.  

7th November 2025 - Anti-bullying Performance

The children from Year 2 to Year 6 watched ‘The Road to Respect’ today.  The children learnt about different types of bullying i.e. verbal, physical, cyber and emotional.  It was a fantastic performance which delivered such a powerful message. 
6F then had the opportunity to take part in a workshop.

6th and 7th November 2025 - Bikeability

Year 5 used some pedal power this week when Bikeability visited school.

Some children learnt to ride a bike on the school playground. Next week, those who can already ride will learn how to ride safely on the roads. 

3rd November 2025 - Linking Project

The children in 5G met their friends from Medlock Valley as part of the Linking Project today at Gallery Oldham.  Today the children learnt about Oldham’s industrial history and studied photos of Oldham from 1876!  They also dressed up as Victorians in shawls and flat caps and put themselves in the photo. They also enjoyed a visit to the galleries too. 

In the afternoon, the children created a large-scale ‘Hands of Friendship’ artwork.  The artwork focused on kindness, sharing, working together and the artistic themes of colour, pattern, line and shape.  One piece of art now displayed at school and the other at Medlock Valley.

23rd October 2025 - Strictly Singing

The children of Burnley Brow wowed everyone today with their vocal talents in our annual Strictly Singing event.  

Every class was amazing – well done to all of the children and their teachers for making this event one of the best!

22nd October 2025 - Pink Chai Day

Today we raised money for the Henna Foundation – a charity that raises awareness of breast cancer in South Asian women. The children came to school wearing pink or blue for the day and the parents came to an event where they gained more awareness of this issue. 

16th and 17th October 2025 - Year 4 Castleshaw Visit

4H and 4D visited the Castleshaw Centre to further deepen their understanding on grid references, compass points and maps! They used their map reading skills to take part in a scavenger hunt around the grounds of the centre, followed a map and did some orienteering. Most of the day was spent outside practically using maps and the children even learnt a few new OS map symbols! Adyan said, “I am really good at using maps now!” 

15th October 2025 - Local Area Walk

Year 4 consolidated their learning on maps with a local area walk this week.  They used a map and a compass to plan and then follow their route from Burnley Brow to Westwood tram stop. They passed many landmarks on their route and were even invited into Chadderton Town Hall where they were given a tour of the place by one of the registrars.  Their instructions have now been written up for others to follow. Well done Year 4! 

6th October 2025 - Harvest

Today the children learnt about harvest in our assembly. 

They brought in their donations of food which have now been donated to the food bank at Chadderton Community Church on Garforth Street. 

We would like to thank our children and their families for their generosity. 

Week Beginning 29th September 2025 - Art Themed Days

The children enjoyed all things art this week. Art week focused on colour mixing beginning with primary colours in Nursery, secondary colours in Reception, different hues in Year 1 and then creating different tints, shades and using complimentary colours in the other year groups.  They also had an artist focus for their art day ranging from Van Gogh to Andy Warhol.  The children had a fabulous time investigating and creating their masterpieces. 

23rd and 24th September 2025 - Year 6 Castleshaw Residential

The children in Year 6 had an amazing time during their residential! The children loved learning to canoe and particularly enjoyed singing songs and standing up in the canoe.  The children loved the walk to Delph as well – looking around at the beautiful surroundings and trying hard not be scared of the sheep! At night, the children enjoyed watching a movie together and tried to get some sleep! 

17th July 2025 - Language Ambassadors Visit

Blue Coat School Language Ambassadors visited Key Stage 2 today to deliver French and German lessons to our children.  They were fantastic and our children loved learning a different language – even learning songs! 

10th July 2025 – STEM Visit to Manchester University

Today,  a group of Burnley Brow engineers had the opportunity to participate in some STEM activities.  They were given the task of developing an underwater robot.  Burnley Brow chose to make a robot to help clean up our oceans and help to protect the animals that live there.  They were tasked to go through the engineering cycle of ask, imagine, create and improve.  They then needed to give a presentation to the other schools there.  Well done everyone who attended – your robot was amazing!

9th July 2025 – Summer Fair

What a fantastic time was had by all at our Summer Fair today.  There was lots of fun, laughter and smiles at all the busy stalls and activities.  A big thank you to all of our children, parents, staff and local businesses who all helped to contribute to making this Summer Fair one of the best!

7th July 2025 – Year 2 History

Year 2 were transported back in time today to the Victorian era.  They learnt about what it would be like to be a child in a Victorian school.  They even had to do their work with slate and a piece of chalk.

After meeting their Victorian teacher,  I am sure they much prefer their teachers at Burnley Brow!

7th July 2025 – Year 6 Celebration Trip

The Year 6 children enjoyed a morning of Ten Pin Bowling today.  This trip was part of a celebration for their hard work this year and throughout their time at Burnley Brow.  A great time was had by all the children and I am sure they all got a strike!

4th July 2025 – 5FB Dragon’s Den

A group of Year 5 children were invited to the Spindles Shopping Centre today to sell handmade flower bouquets to raises money for Dr Kershaw’s Hospice.  The children in 5FB have been working hard to hand-craft as many pipe cleaner bouquets as they could to help them raise as much money as possible for the charity.  The sales team, Floral Force, showed fantastic sales skills and confidence as they approached members of the public to tell them about their product.  In 3 and a half hours they managed make £368 for the charity. Their fundraising continues in school and they will have a stall at our upcoming Summer Fair.  Well done 5FB!

4th July 2025 – 2S Linking Project

2S met with their friends from Medlock Valley School today as part of their Linking Project.  Both schools visited the Castleshaw Centre in Delph and had a fabulous day continuing to  build their friendships!  The children enjoyed a walking adventure – they loved walking through the stream, orienteering, pond dipping, playing in the park and even got the chance to feed the goats.  The children have made good friends and I am sure they will look forward to seeing their friends again next year!

2nd July 2025 – Eco-council

The Eco-council have been flexing their green fingers this term. The children have taken part in the Oldham Rotary Club ‘Primary Schools Gardening Challenge’.  They created their own designs for the growing area and chose to have an ‘edible’ garden.  The Eco-council thoroughly enjoyed growing tomatoes, strawberries, raspberries, peas and beans.  We received a credit and certificate thatwill be displayed in school. Well done Eco-council!

2nd July 2025 – Oldham Music Festival

Today our choir visited the Queen Elizabeth Hall to perform two songs as part of the festival.  The choir were amazing and the adjudicator had one word to describe our choir: ‘WOW!’ The children really enjoyed the experience and enjoyed performing and watching the other choirs and musicians.  A fabulous morning of music was had by all.

1st July 2025 – Science Day

At our Science themed say, we sparked children’s curiosity as they were encouraged to create their own scientific questions about the toys and technology that they interact with every day. Following on from this, they planned an investigation to explore their questions. Children also learned about the diverse work scientists do, from marine biology to space exploration, through videos and real-life profiles which challenged their perception of what is scientist is, does and looks like. The day inspired critical thinking, creativity and a deeper understanding of science as a way to explore and make sense of the world.

25th June 2025 – Summer Raffle

The Student Leaders visited Ultimate Products today to collect some raffle prizes for our upcoming Summer Fair on the 9th July.  Prizes have also been donated by lots of other local businesses: Chadderton Superstore, Juned’s Driving School, Westwood East, Mooboo, Oldham Superstore, Wok Chef, Indian Ocean, Khau Gali, Eaba Express, Aura Cafeteria, Tesco and Smyths.  We would like to thank everyone for their kind donations to our raffle.  I wonder who the lucky winners will be?

16th and 17th June – Year 6 Castleshaw Residential

The children in Year 6 enjoyed their residential to the Castleshaw Centre.  The children learnt to canoe and I am sure enjoyed getting wet!  They also enjoyed their walk to the local village: Delph.  After all of the day’s activities, the children learnt the new life skill of making their own bed – this caused lots of laughter.  I know the children loved their overnight stay!

13th June – Computing Day

Today we were joined by the CODE Show, who delivered an assembly and workshops throughout the day.

The workshops were hands-on and allowed children to program and play with technology from the past 50 years and showed the children how Britain entered the computing and digital age during the late 1970’s and 80’s.  As part of the workshop, the children also saw a Sinclair C5 electric car!

The children also learnt how to stay safe online. learnt about careers in computing and all about AI.  The children really enjoyed the day and were able to explore computing on a different level and were inspired to become programmers in their future.

12th June 2025 – Singing Challenge

Burnley Brow took part in Oldham Music Service’s Singing Challenge today.

Burnley Brow joined other schools in Oldham at 2:15pm to sing Music Matters.

It was so lovely to see all the children enjoying singing! Well don Burnley Brow!

11th June 2025 – Manchester Science and Industry Museum

The children had a fabulous time at MOSI today. It sparked lots of scientific curiosity as well as educating them on the history of Manchester. The children particularly enjoyed the hands-on science gallery where they loved experimenting! The children then joined a workshop on the revolution behind transport and inventions in Manchester.

Isha said, “I had the best day ever and I really want to go back.”

21st and 22nd May 2025 – Castleshaw

As part of their learning on rivers, Year 6 enjoyed a fabulous trip to the Castleshaw Centre.  They walked to the source of a stream and learnt about how water flows from high ground, eventually joining larger rivers and even seas.  The children explored the wildlife living in the river finding crayfish, tadpoles and sticklebacks.

19th May 2025 – Jiu Jitsu

At tonight’s club, all the children who attend achieved there white belt!  To achieve this belt they had to perform certain moves such as a 4 point pivot, chi kung and horse riding stance kata. The children were so proud of their achievements. Aryan said, “I like this club because it teaches you all about discipline and respect.”

12th – 15th May 2025 – Year 6 SATs Week

The children in Year 6 have taken their SATs tests this week and have enjoyed coming in early to enjoy their SATs breakfast.

We have been blown away by their attitude and hard-work in all of their tests this week.

28th April 2025 – Number Rocks Day

Today we relaunched  Times Table Rock Stars by having a Number Rocks Day.  The children looked fabulous coming to school dressed as rockstars with a number twist! Throughout the day the children took part in a range of exciting challenges to boost their enthusiasm  for numbers!  The teachers had a great time too and Mr Garside and Mrs Ford even went head-to-head to see who knew their times tables the fastest! Keep practising at home!

25th April 2025 – Choral Speaking

Today we had a special visitor in our assembly today –  Con Kelly from Oldham’s Choral Speaking festival visited today to award 5FB a special certificate for their contributions at this years festival. Not only were they awarded a distinction for their performance but were also awarded the Adjudicators Commendation.

The feedback the class received stated that the performances were well rehearsed, strong and powerful! A superb performance.  Well done 5FB!

22nd April 2025 – Year 4 Roman Visitor

The Year 4 children enjoyed having a visit from a Roman today.  He taught them all about the Roman Empire, they had a chance to look at artefacts – no one wanted to touch the poo stick!  The children also played some Roman games such as 5 lines and Ludus.  They also learnt about all the wonderful things that the Roman’s did for us.  Romesa in Year 4 said “It was really fun – we were learning stuff without knowing it!”

4th April 2025 – Certificate Assembly

The certificate assembly today celebrated the achievements of our children and parents.  Some children gained certificates for ‘Achievement’ and ‘Effort’.  Attendance was also celebrated for those children with 100% attendance for this term and those with 100% attendance from the start of the year.

The achievements of our parents were also celebrated with certificates for Food Hygiene and First Aid which were kindly delivered by Jigsaw Housing.  Parents were also given certificates for their attendance at a 13 week course called Strengthening Families, Strengthening Communities. Well done to all of our children and parents.

3rd April – Easter Raffle

Thank you to all of our families who supported our recent Easter raffle which raised a lot of money for School Fund.  Well done to all of the winners.

2nd and 3rd April – Eid Assembly

Key Stage 2 have performed their Eid assembly all about Ramadan to their parents over the past couple of days.

The actors, narrators, singers and tabla players were all amazing! The parents enjoyed watching their children and I am even sure there were a few tears from some members of the audience.

Well done to all the children and staff for an amazing performance!

2nd April 2025 – Eid Party Lunch and Parties

The children enjoyed their special party lunch today and had fun playing party games and eating party food at their parties. What a fabulous celebration! The children looked fabulous in their Eid clothes. Eid Mubarak everyone!

21st March 2025 – Red Nose Day

The children had a fabulous time on Friday doing something funny for money! The Year 6 children told some jokes in the Joke Machine! They enjoyed the RND themed cafes and loved soak the teacher: the lucky winners were Miss Nield and Miss Shumman from Early Years and Key Stage 1 and Mr Jacques and Miss Bland for Key Stage 2.

13th March 2025 – Stockport Air Raid Shelter

The children in Year 6 visited Stockport Air Raid Shelter today to consolidate their learning on World War 2.  The children learnt what it would be like for children during the Blitz.  The children learnt about rationing and had the opportunity to use a range of 1940’s kitchen equipment.  They even had to the opportunity to try on some 1940’s clothing.

7th March 2025 – World Book Day

The children came to school today dressed as their favourite book character – can you guess who everyone dressed up as.  They attended a special assembly and then took part in a carousel of activities all linked to reading. In the afternoon, the children also took part in a free writing afternoon.  The children also went home with a World Book Day voucher – we hope they enjoyed spending it!

5th March 2025 – Choral Speaking Day

Children from 3H, 3B and 5FB visited the Queen Elizabeth Hall in Oldham to perform the poems they have been learning in the 39th Choral Speaking Festival. The children’s performances were amazing. 3B got an Honours minus, 3H were awarded an Honours plus and 5FB were awarded an distinction.  Well done to all the classes!

28th February 2025 – Islamic Relief Charity Day

Islamic Relief - Accountable NowThe children in Year 2 have been learning about ‘Zakat’.  They were so inspired by Dr Hany El Banna that they decided to raise money for the charity: Islamic Relief.  The children delivered a special assembly to the rest of the school and today the children came to school in non-uniform and raised lots of money for the charity. Well done Year 2!

27th February 2025 – Front Row Music

The children had an amazing afternoon listening to rock and pop songs performed by the wonderful company Front Row Music.  They particularly enjoyed The Eye of the Tiger the musicians and the children gave a fantastic performance.

20th December 2024 – Party Day and Father Christmas Visit

Today the children enjoyed their Christmas party lunch and parties in the their classrooms.  All of the children were visited by a very special visitor – Father Christmas who had a present for each child to take home.

19th December 2024 – Christmas Dinner Day

What a fantastic Christmas dinner day today!  The children and staff enjoyed a Christmas dinner with all the trimmings and wore their fantastic party hats. Aryan said, “I love Christmas dinner because I love sitting with the teachers.” Thank you to everyone in the kitchen who made the day such a success!

18th December 2024 – Reindeer Run

Not even the weather could spoil Burnley Brow’s Reindeer

Run in support of Dr Kershaw’s!  Early Years and Years 1 and 2 did shuttle runs in the hall and Years 3 to 6 braved the elements to run outside. The children were lead by Father Christmas himself and they had the opportunity to meet Hartley – the Dr Kershaw’s mascot. We raised over £400 towards such a good cause – thank you to all of our staff, children and families for their generous donations.

16th and 17th December 2024 – Nativity

The children in Nursery, Reception and Key Stage performed the Nativity to their parents on these days.  It was so lovely to see so many of our parents at each of these performances and I am sure that you enjoyed the excellent acting and singing.  Well done to all the children and staff who made these performances such a success!
